An American is annoucned as the winner of the Rose of Tralee.

The Kerry festival selects a young woman from Ireland or the Irish community abroad to be the Rose of Tralee. The final ceremony took place at Ashe Memorial Hall on Denny Street in Tralee, where the 1970 Rose of Tralee, 19 year old Kathleen (Kathy) Elizabeth Walsh, was selected.

Kathy Walsh from Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA, was chosen from 22 Roses from around the world. She takes the coveted title of Rose of Tralee and a cheque for £1,000.
