Aer Lingus launches a new transatlantic service from Belfast to Boston and New York.
Aer Lingus has set up new routes between Belfast and Boston and New York to operate four times a week during the summer. The flights will use an Airbus jet and fly under the Vacations Ireland label. Return fares start at £359.
Aer Lingus is also launching a new service between Belfast and Shannon for £39 return. This new route was welcomed by politicians and business people in the west of Ireland who arrived on the inaugural flight to Belfast this morning. Lord Mayor of Belfast Eric Smyth, a member of the DUP, welcomed Minister Michael Lowry, indicating changing political times.
Speaking at the launch of the Vacations Ireland campaign, Michael Lowry said that the new service was another dividend of cross border cooperation and the peace process. The new service is already fully booked to the end of the summer and it is hoped that it will be extended beyond that.
CEO Gary McGann says that Aer Lingus wants to play its part in the economic development of Belfast and the island as a whole.
