Minister launches dial the time a speaking clock service for telephone subscribers in the Dublin area.
A new speaking clock service allows people in Dublin to get the exact time by making a telephone call. 'Dial the Time' is launched by Minister for Posts and Telegraphs Gerry Collins at the Central Telephone Exchange in Exchequer Street in Dublin.
Gerry Collins dials 1191 and is informed,
At the signal it will be 11:29 and 50 seconds.
Among those at the launch is Frances Donegan, the voice of the 'Dial the Time' service. She was selected following a competition among Department of Posts and Telegraphs telephone operating staff and received a special prize of £50.
