The refurbishment of the town hall is a sign of confidence for the future of the city of Sligo.

Sligo City Hall is one of the few remaining civic buildings built in the grand Renaissance style. The buidling has been reopened after a major renovation.

County Manager Hubert Kearns says that the newly restored building reflects local confidence in the future of Sligo.

Today, City Hall in Sligo stands transformed.

The first refurbishment in over a hundred years took over two years to complete and cost over three and a half million pounds. The building, completed in the early 1870s, has a lot of personal and local history. Mayor of Sligo, Rosaleen O'Grady, recalls how her parents first met 58 years ago at a dance in the town hall.

Among the special restoration features are the new council chamber and the words carved into the walls of the foyer. The words are taken from the original 1865 Borough Improvement Act alongside others that are particularly relevant to Sligo.
