Four teenage girls claim to have seen an apparition of the Virgin Mary in Sligo.

The curious and the devout have gathered in a muddy field in Culleens, County Sligo the location where the alleged apparition is reported to have occurred.

The cold, wet night doesn't halt the flow of visitors to Culleens.

Loudspeakers have been mounted on a wooden post as the four teenagers lead the ritual of prayers and hymns.

The four secondary school students claim that on the night of 2 September, returning from the shop, they saw a vision of the Blessed Virgin emerge from the darkness. They claim that since then others have had a similar experience.

The story of the apparition has drawn thousands of people to this remote spot on the border between Sligo and Mayo to pray in the hope of witnessing a miracle.
