An April Fool's Day prank has Maura Derrane thinking Dáithí Ó Sé has broken a rare antique teapot.

During an antiques item on the ‘Today’ show, President of the Irish Antiques Dealers Association George Stacpoole lays the groundwork for an April Fool’s Day trick. He shows off a teapot from 1740 which he says is from the prestigious Charlotte Schreiber Collection. George Stacpoole estimates the teapot is worth €4500.

Dáithí Ó Sé holds the fake antique teapot to display the hallmark. However, when attempting to set down the valuable item he misjudges and the teapot smashes into pieces. George Stacpoole adding to the drama cries,

What have you done?

Maura Derrane initially covers her face in horror, but quickly regains composure,

Oh my goodness, Ok, we’ll deal with this after the break.

After the break, the show continues with some April Fool’s Day stories during which Dáithí Ó Sé reveals his prank. He deliberately broke the teapot, worth €20, not €4500. Maura Derrane compliments his acting, admitting he was very convincing,

I was feeling sorry for you.

She should have known something was amiss when George Stacpoole was not angry about the teapot breakage. Dáithí Ó Sé is delighted with his success.

This episode of ‘Today’ was broadcast on 1 April 2015. The presenters are Dáithí Ó Sé and Maura Derrane.
