The 18th-century dining hall at Trinity College Dublin was badly damaged by fire.

Flames and smoke bellowed from the roof of the old dining hall building in the centre of Trinity College Dublin. The fire was visible from the street outside the college where onlookers stopped to watch the disaster unfold.

Inside Trinity College, eight units of the Dublin Fire Brigade battled the flames as plumes of black smoke rose into the sky. The fire broke out shortly after 7 pm.

Designed by architect Richard Cassels the dining hall was built in the early 18th century,.
