The British Army continues to construct blockades on border roads.
For the past few months British soldiers have set up roadblocks on many small country roads that cross the border.
At first these were removed, but now the army has taken to waiting for the concrete used to construct the barriers to dry. Five country roads between north Leitrim and south Fermanagh have been sealed off using concrete and metal. Local Gardaí observe but do not intervene.
There has been increased pressure from the Unionist community in County Fermanagh who want to see small roads closed, four more were blocked this week. The British Army claims that,
Blocking of a road in May produced a dramatic improvement in security.
Motorists have been forced to take alternative routes, but it is still possible for pedestrians to cross the border in both directions.
One protest meeting has already been held in County Leitrim this week. Another has been arranged for tonight with local councillors and TDs (Teachtaí Dála).
