The latest report from The Samaritans identifies an increase in demand for their services.

The Dublin branch of The Samaritans received five thousand more calls in 1978 than in the previous year.

We have a 91 per cent increase in the number of young callers.

The number of calls from young people has risen significantly. Kevin O'Higgins director of the Dublin branch of The Samaritans, says people in need are availing of the service which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We're not really interested in the statistics. To us, they are people, human beings in trouble.

The service offered by The Samaritans is free, available, anonymous and non-judgmental. Kevin O'Higgins says that the service provides communication with an individual without bureaucracy or red tape.

This report from The Samaritans identifies that a growing number of people have a feeling of isolation.
