Irish actor Pierce Brosnan is named as the new James Bond.
Pierce Brosnan was introduced as the new James Bond at a press conference, becoming the fifth actor to play the secret agent in the 007 series.
Ladies and gentlemen, the new James Bond Mr Pierce Brosnan.
Pierce Brosnan was reluctant to reveal how much he was being paid to take the coveted role. The 41 year old actor follows in the footsteps of four other Bonds, Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton. Pierce Brosnan had previously been offered the role in 1986 but due to other filming commitments, had to decline.
A long time James Bond fan, 'Goldfinger' was the last film Pierce Brosnan saw in County Meath before emigrating to America with his parents in 1964. The actor's most recent role was that of the suave boyfriend Stu in 'Mrs Doubtfire', where he starred alongside Robin Williams and Sally Field.
For his new role, Pierce Brosnan has promised a return to the Sean Connery style James Bond. His first appearance as James Bond will be in the 17th film in the series, 'GoldenEye', which is expected to be in cinemas in 1995.
