Born Daniel Patrick Carroll in Cork in 1927, he emigrated to London with his family at six. By the time Danny La Rue appeared on television screens he had years of successful theatrical work behind him.
This is the first time that Danny La Rue has brought his stage show to Leeside, and it means a lot, as he has always been in contact with a large Irish fanbase.
I've had such wonderful letters from home…encouraging and lovely.
He has been taking his native city by storm, playing to a packed Cork Opera House twice nightly to rapturous audiences.
The show itself has not been adapted in any way, as Danny La Rue feels that Irish audiences appreciate cheeky humour, which he maintains is inherently Irish.
There's that little glint in the eye.
Extended family and fans have welcomed him with open arms, leaving Danny La Rue feeling his visit to Cork has been filled with,
