A musical tracing the plantation of Ulster and the migration of Ulster Scots to America opens in Belfast.

'On Eagle's Wing' is the story of Ulster Scots told in music song and dance.

'On Eagle's Wing' spans five hundred years and chronicles the plantation of Ulster when a hundred thousand Scottish Presbyterians were settled in the north dislodging much of the indigenous Catholic population.

The show also portrays the migration of the Ulster Scots and the role they played in the foundation and development of the United States.

Singer Peter Corry describes the production as a combination of

Les Miserables, Riverdance, The Matrix, Madonna and a little bit of Braveheart thrown in.

Senior Ulster Unionist Lord Laird is a major supporter of a show he believes will appeal to everybody. While the musical tells the story of the Ulster Scots, it is not aimed solely at the Protestant community.

'On Eagle's Wing' is due to embark on a coast to coast tour of the US next year.
