A concert in Limerick to celebrate the launch of Lyric FM the new RTÉ arts and music radio station.

The National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland conducted by Alexander Anissimov perform a piece from Modest Mussorgsky's Suite 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. The music was inspired by an exhibition of paintings by Mussorgsky's friend and artist Viktor Hartmann.

The first excerpt is 'The Hut on Fouls Legs', a musical depiction of a painting of a clock in the shape of the famous Russian witch Baba Yaga.

Mussorgsky's music portrays this witch flying around on her broomstick.

'Lyric FM Gala Concert' was broadcast on 2 May 1999. The presenter is Mary Kennedy.
