Parts of south Donegal felt tremors from a second earthquake in a month.

A 2.1 magnitude tremor was felt in area stretching between Ballyshannon in Donegal and Belleek in Fermanagh.

The latest quake occurred last night at 09:18:23 pm, 22 days after the last earthquake which measured 2.4 magnitude in Donegal Bay.

Áine Uí Chléirigh, from Ballintra, was at home in her kitchen when the tremor occurred. She initially thought it was the noise from a blast at a local quarry.

The earthquake was detected automatically by the Irish National Seismic Network. Thomas Blake, Director at the Irish National Seismic Network explains,

The reason why we have earthquakes in Donegal is tied in with the very complex geology that exists there.
