The bells at Christ Church Cathedral are to undergo restoration.

For over a century no major work has been carried out on the bells at Christ Church Cathedral. Bell Tower Captain David Taylor explains that for the repairs required to be carried out,

The twelve bells are being sent to a foundry in Leicestershire for restoration.

Five of the bells date from 1738 and the newest is nearly one hundred years old. David Taylor says that all the moving parts of the bells are showing signs of age. The mechanical components of the clappers, wheels, and pullies are all in need of attention. The hope is that once the job is complete the bells will not need to be touched for another one hundred years.

Estimates for the cost of the repairs are over £12,000 hopes are that the bells at Christ Church Cathedral will be back in operation by October.
