Minister for Post and Telegraphs opens a new automatic telephone exchange in Dublin 4.

The new automated telephone exchange located in Ballsbridge cost £1 million. This upgrade to the telephone network under the Telephone Capital Act of December 1973 which approved investment in telecommunications infrastructure over the next five years.

The Minister for Post and Telegraphs Dr Conor Cruise O'Brien was given a guided tour of the new exchange.
