Irish Hospitals' Sweepstake ticket wins over £26,000 for Waterford carpenter Edward Meagher.

Edward Meagher is congratulated by his workmates following a big win in the Irish Hospitals’ Sweepstake.

The 53-year-old carpenter drew the winning horse Foggy Bell in the Irish Hospitals' Sweepstake on the Lincoln. He sold a half-share in the ticket to a Dublin bookmaker for £1,275, which brings his total windfall to £26.275.

In the 20 years he has been buying Irish Hospitals' Sweepstake tickets this is the first time Edward Meagher has won anything. The lucky ticket was bought in a local shop, Stokes of Michael Street in Waterford city.

Edward Meagher has no plans to give up work. During the summer the father of six plans to visit Rome with his wife and some of his children.
