The Millennium Drum claims to be the world's largest drum and will have a first outing at the St Patrick's Day parade.
The drum will feature in several millennium events around the country during the year.
The Millennium Drum will have eight performers when it leads the St Patrick's Day main parade 'The Dawn of the New Millennium'. It weighs three and a half tonnes and is 15 feet in diameter and six feet in height when lying on its side. The event will mark the official start of the countdown to the year 2,000 celebrations.
The drum will also feature in this year's Samba Festival parade on 11 July.
