A coach company provides free WiFi for passengers.

Surfing the internet while travelling by bus could soon become the norm after a Dublin coach operator become the first to provide free WiFi onboard.

JJ Kavanagh and Sons have fitted five of their coaches with wireless technology. The decision was made following a customer survey, showed that being able to purchase tickets online and access to free WiFi while travelling were top of passengers' wish lists.

Now when customers purchase bus tickets online, they will also get free WiFi for the duration of their journey. Paul Kavanagh of JJ Kavanagh and Sons says that people can now work while they travel to the airport and also to and from college.

Eighty per cent of third level students use WiFi or have laptops.

Patrick Cotter of Fleet Direct the company who installed the WiFi service believes,

The system is as good as working in the office.

Irish Rail and Bus Éireann have been looking into providing WiFi services taking into account the cost-benefit of such a move.
