Over a period of ten days Tom McGrath completes a 630 mile charity run around Ireland.

On 2 December 1983, runner Tom McGrath set off from the Mansion House in Dublin to run 630 miles around Ireland.

Originally from County Fermannagh Tom McGrath now lives in New York. He ran approximately 70 miles each day, his route taking him through many counties, towns and villages of Ireland, including Sligo, Galway, Cork, Kilkenny and Wexford.

Tom McGrath arrives back at the Mansion House where he is greeted by the Lord Mayor Michael Keating and a crowed of well wishers.

The epic test of endurance was a lot tougher than Tom McGrath had anticipated,

I was never so glad in all my life to see Dublin.

The run raised funds and support for people with intellectual disabilities attending St Mary's in Drumcar, County Louth, operated by the Brothers of Saint John of God.
