Training for fishermen to be safer at sea includes use of a new life jacket..

Bord Iascaigh Mhara demonstrates a prototype working life jacket for fishermen at Leisureland in Salthill, Galway.

Dressed in a full-length life jacket, Joey Murrin of the Irish Fishersmen's Organisation demonstrates the wearable flotation device. He believes a fisherman wearing one of these life jackets thrown overboard, would have enough floatation time for a successful rescue to take place. The IFO will be recommending that fishermen invest in a lifejacket.

I'd recommend any working fisherman on board the deck of a boat, they should wear this.

Brendan O'Kelly, Chairman of Bord Iascaigh Mhara, says his organisation is not happy with the current standards of safety on board fishing vessels at sea. The challenge is to find a working life jacket that fishermen can wear at all times.
