An exhibition of sculpture by John Behan opens in Galway.
Artist and sculptor John Behan is in the process of putting the finishing touches to a piece of work a few hours before the opening of his exhibition.
The Dublin born sculptor started his career in a metalwork factory, which led to an interest in sculpture. He studied at the National College of Art and Design, as well as in London and Oslo.
In 1970 he co-founded the Dublin Art Foundry, was a member of the Arts Council in the 1970s and was elected a member of Aosdána in 1978.
Having made the move to County Galway some years ago, he is as busy as ever and has no regrets about moving west. He describes the west of Ireland as the part of the country that gives him,
Freedom from where an artist can feel happy within.
At the opening of the exhibition at Kenny's Art Gallery in Salthill, Rosc chairman Patrick J Murphy described John Behan as,
An outstanding artist of international stature.
