Measures to prevent the unauthorised sale of tickets for Tom Waits concert.
Tom Waits is performing for three nights at the Phoenix Park in Dublin playing to over 13,000 fans. A new approach to combat ticket touts is being trialed at the shows. Those attending the concerts will have to show photo ID that matches the name printed on the tickets or they will be denied access.
Fans have to show photo ID which must match the name printed on the tickets.
The measure was put in place by Tom Waits' management in an effort to stop touting. Organisers believe that the measure is working. Peter Aiken of Aiden Promotions says he has not seen tickets for sale on the internet or any bogus outlets advertising tickets for sale. David Cassidy, Ticketmaster, says it is a measure that they would welcome for other concerts.
It's beneficial for Ticketmaster but also for the concert-goers themselves.
Michael Kilcoyne, vice chairman of the Consumers Association, believes the measure is of greater benefit to concert promoters than it is to the consumer. Under this system, the consumer can not pass on tickets if they can not attend.
Fans attending the Tom Waits concerts will also be asked to turn off their mobile phones and not to use cameras.
