Queen's University Belfast awards honorary doctorates to Bertie Ahern and Tony Blair.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair receive honorary doctorates from Queen's University Belfast.

Both men received law doctorates for distinction in public service and for their roles in the peace process.

The conferring ceremony took place during a conference exploring the lessons learnt during the peace process. US Senator and Chancellor of Queen's University George Mitchell delivered the citation.

Bertie Ahern has earned his place in history as a man of the peace and a builder of bridges among people. For that, we honour him today.

While Tony Blair was also conferred with a doctorate, he was not in attendance and received his honour by video link.
