Electronics and services firms will bring 240 new jobs to Galway and Castlebar.

Two hundred jobs will be created in Castlebar, with the British telecommunications cable assembly company Volex. The plant already employs one hundred and seventy people here, and is worth three and a half million pounds to the town in wages and services.

Mayo has lost many young people to foreign shores, hopes are that the expansion of the workforce will attract some emigrants home, says Mile Newell, managing director of Volex Ireland Ltd.,

This is the time to get people like that back.

In Galway the American company PH Brink Corporation will set up a specialist language translation services centre, creating forty new jobs. Tánaiste Mary Harvey described the news as,

A further endorsement of the government’s regional development policies.
