Local politician responds to the impression of Skibbereen in County Cork presented on RTÉ television.
Complaints have come in response to a recent report on the town of Skibbereen of the programme 'Seven Days'. Some people believe Skibbereen was portrayed in a negative light when derelict buildings and sites were shown. There has been a call for a more balanced report showing the new hotels and shops, improved amenities for tourists, and the general prosperity of the town.

County councillor Timothy Burke argues that the people of Skibbereen have spent years building up a strong tourist trade and RTÉ has not presented a true picture of the town.
On your last programme here on Seven Days was not a true picture of this town.
Timothy Burke says that the programme did not show the beautiful beaches or the four parks which are a real attraction for tourists.
This episode of 'Newsbeat' was broadcast on 9 January 1968. The presenter is Bill O'Herlihy.
