The Marquis of Headfort has set up aerodrome near Kells in County Meath.

The official opening ceremony for the aerodrome was performed by the Minister for Transport and Power Erskine Childers. The minister congratulated the Marquis of Headfort on the new facility which he said would contribute to the development of air transport and tourism for the region.

At the opening ceremony, fifteen planes took part in an air display sponsored by the Meath air group, which was established by Lord Headfort. The display included six Turbulent planes flown by members of the Tiger Flying Club from Surrey, two Vampire Jets and a Chipmunk flown by members of the Army Air Corps, and a Piper Aztec flown by the Marquis of Kildare.
