People get out to enjoy the weather, cyclists race coast to coast and new lion cubs at Dublin Zoo.

Travel by road and rail is busy for the June bank holiday weekend. Thirty extra trains are being provided by CIÉ (Córas Iompair Éireann). There is no major traffic congestion being reported by the AA (Automobile Association) except around resort areas.

The north is enjoying the best weather with highs of twenty six degrees Celsius, and the west is also hot and sunny. There have been cloudy conditions in the south of the country, with fog on the south east coast affecting shipping. A warning from the Department of the Environment reminds the public,

Enjoy the weather, but aquatic activities and alcohol don't mix.

The GPO (General Post Office) was the starting point for the Coast to Coast cycle race which takes place over three days. Gay Byrne sent over seventy cyclists off on their way from O'Connell Street in Dublin.

Dublin Zoo has announced the arrival of three lion cubs, born two weeks ago to Natal and Natalie, the lions donated by the Causeway Safari Park in County Antrim in April. The cubs will be on view to the public in about three weeks time.
