The National Irish Bank is the first bank to remain open at lunchtime.
The National Irish Bank is the first bank to remain open through 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. This move reintroduces a lunchtime banking service which disappeared in the late 1940s.
At 12:50 pm the National Irish Bank branch on O'Connell Street in Dublin is bustling, as customers avail of the new opening hours.
The move is part of the settlement between the banks and the Irish Bank Officials Association following a recent industrial dispute. From 4 May 1992, the big four banking groups will phase in lunchtime opening in their branches. In 1993 the banks will introduce late afternoon opening hours.
