Dublinia, a major new heritage centre to be located at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.
The Dublin landmark of Christ Church Synod Hall is to get a new lease of life. The Synod Hall has been an ecclesiastical meeting point, a late night disco venue and is now to be reborn as a major heritage centre.
A total of £3.8 million is being invested in construction work to create the new heritage centre which will be known as 'Dublinia'. The new venture will house full scale realistic models of Dublin's medieval past. At the launch of the project Chairman of the Medieval Trust Craig McKinney said it would,
Inform, Enlighten and Entertain.
Dublinia will provide us with a link to our medieval past. Visitors will experience an exhibition on three levels beginning in the Synod House, then cross over the bridge into Christ Church Cathedral.
Dublinia is expected to open to the public in March 1993.
