A fifteen tier wedding cake for the marriage of a couple in Granard, County Longford.

The wedding of Lena McGinley of Donegal and William McGinley from County Limerick takes place in Granard, County Longford. The couple, both 17 years of age, come from large families.

The bride's mother Julia McGinley confirms Lena is her sixth child to be married. The bride’s father Denis McGinley is happy with Lena’s choice of husband,

She’s making a good match and I’m quite satisfied.

The couple’s wedding cake, made by Breaden's Bakery in Dublin Street, Longford, is believed to be the world's biggest wedding cake. Breaden's Bakery manager Barry McKeogh lists the ingredients used for the 15 tier cake which stands at just over 3 metres high. In spite of 250 guests attending the wedding reception,

I don’t think it will ever be eaten, I don’t think it will be finished.

A more pressing concern for Barry McKeogh is the vibration through the floor causing the cake to tilt in a manner reminiscent of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.
