Tánaiste Michael O'Leary heads Government Emergency Committee formed to respond to severe weather.

The Labour Party leader Michael O'Leary responds to criticism of the government response to the heavy snow and freezing temperature.

No one could have predicted the length or severity of this bad spell.

While Michael O'Leary is on the whole satisfied with the level of relief available he admits that Ireland is not equipped or prepared for snow falls of the levels it has experienced. RTÉ News has met fifty people stuck in a factory along the Naas Road and families stuck in Heuston Station since last night.

Michael O'Leary pays tribute the efforts of the Defence Forces, the Gardaí, the ambulance men and women and doctors who have been working around the clock.
