A new holiday village is being built on the island of Eanach Mheáin off the Galway coast.

The Eanach Mheáin (Annaghvaan Island) holiday complex will consist of 13 traditional style cottages which will cost about £200 a week to rent. The houses are being built by the local cooperative and Minister for the Gaeltacht Paddy O'Toole was on hand to lay an engraved block into the wall.

Construction work is being taken care of by the islanders themselves.

Speaking at the launch ceremony the Minister paid tribute to the people of Annaghvaan and declared the government’s commitment to supporting the project.

Funding for the holiday village has come from Údarás na Gaeltachta and Bord Fáilte.

Construction is expected to be completed by June 1982.

The cooperative is convinced that the holiday cottages will be a great attraction to tourists and create an economic boost for the region.
