Semtex, flares, detonators, timers and copper piping discovered in a Cork forest.
Gardai in Carrigtwohill in County Cork have found what they describe as a significant arsenal of explosives in a forest.
Included in the haul was a two and half pound block of semtex, flares, detonators, timers and copper piping.
The discovery was made this morning slightly after 10.00 am by a man out walking his dog. He reported what he thought was a chemical spill to Midleton Fire Brigade.
The Ordnance Corp and Gardaí investigated the scene. Supt Maurice Murray explains how the discovery was made. He would not say if the find was linked to any terrorist organisation. He believes that if the bomb making equipment was used, it would have a devastating effect. The investigation is ongoing.
