The ESB Ringsend Power Station is renovated with an increased capacity to produce electricity.
The first phase of an £8 million extension to the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) power station at Ringsend opens. The new facility was officially opened by Minister for Transport and Power Erskine Childers.
The original power station consisted of three 30,000 kilowatt generating units. As the demand for electricity has grown, it was decided to expand the facility adding three 60,000 kilowatt units. When the full expansion is complete, the station will be capable of producing in excess of one million units of electricity every year.
It is expected that the new station will employ an additional 50 workers adding to its existing 200 employees.
