A marathon fashion show, a castle made from milk cartons and sponsoring a politician to milk a cow among the events to raise money for People in Need.
The week of events to raise money for the telethon in the mid-west began in Limerick with a twelve hour marathon fashion show organised by the Celia Holman Lee Model Agency. The event raised £700.
In Nenagh County Tipperary a model of Nenagh Castle was built with used milk cartons raising £1,400. In Lisnagry County Limerick a sponsored treasure hunt was preceded by a dance in the sun for participants.
The two main banks in Limerick city were also doing their bit to raise money for People in Need. Bank of Ireland are collecting donations on a money clothesline while AIB are proving that money does grow on trees.
The farming coop has come up with a novel way of raising funds by offering £1,000 for the first public representative to milk one of their dairy cows. The ESB hopes to raise funds with their clown and Lego competition.
As a result of all these initiatives and many more, it is estimated that previous records for fundraising will be beaten in the mid-west.
