Thousands of pilgrims have visited the House of Prayer on Achill but Christina Gallagher has announced that it will now close.
For the past five years the house on Achill Island has been a place of worship for many. Founder of the House of Prayer Christina Gallagher claims to have visions of the Virgin Mary and to have stigmata on her feet, .

There have also been reports of inexplicable healings and other miraculous happenings at the House of Prayer.
After five years in operation, however, Christina Gallagher has announced that the House of Prayer is to close. According to her new restrictions imposed by the Archdiocese of Tuam had made it impossible for her to continue.
It's understood the Archbishop Dr Michael Neary said he wanted to integrate the house more into the spiritual life of the island.
Recent visitors to the house have been diverted to the local church leading some with the view that the Archbishop is trying to suppress the House of Prayer and force it underground.
