Getting a California stretch at an aerobics class in a Dublin suburb.

American fads such as hang gliding and skateboarding have all come and gone, but one craze that shows no sign of disappearing is the American Workout or California Stretch. Inspired by the Jane Fonda Workout, these aerobic exercise classes are here to stay.

In the Ranelagh Workout Studio in Dublin, clad in leotards and legwarmers,

Instructor Debbie Logan keeps the class moving and music such as ‘Numbers’ by the German band Kraftwerk keep class goers exercising at the right pace.

People of any size or age can do the workout. Men are welcome to join in, however the class is predominantly made up of women.

While the participants were tired at the start of the class, they emerge from the studio full of energy and will be back for more.
