Forward thinking bus driver to reverse around the Ring of Kerry.

Kerry coach driver John McDonald has come up with a novel way of raising money for charity by reversing his tour bus around the Ring of Kerry.

In preparation for an attempt to reverse around the entire Ring of Kerry the tour bus negotiates its way through Moll's Gap backwards . The plan is for the 53 seater, 12 meter, 7-tonne coach to make the 110-mile journey backwards around the Ring of Kerry.

The objective of the exercise is to raise £40,000 for the Aid Cancer Treatment Fund and the Cystic Fibrosis Fund. The attempt will begin on 31 October and will continue over several days.

Driver John McDonald has travelled the Ring of Kerry many times and thought it would be a novel fundraising idea for two worthy causes. Guidance at the back of the bus will come from members of the International Hotel staff in Killarney, who are joint organisers of the fund-raising drive. 450 hotels throughout the country are sponsoring the event.

The event is part of a campaign by 36-year-old Kerry man Pat O'Connell, a cancer victim himself, who has already raised over £130,000 through sponsored runs and marathons. However, Pat O'Connell is not happy that 10% of the funds raised must go to the government in taxes.
