A line-up of 22 women, all nominated by their employers and representing various businesses took part in the 'Heart of Galway Girl' competition.
Fidelma Burke of Moycullen, employed by Shoes by Michael in Dominick Street Galway, is announced the winner at the Gala Festival Ball in Leisureland.
Fidelma Burke was presented with her sash, robe and crown by the Mayor of Galway, Councillor Mary Byrne. One of the judges for the competition was actor Joe Pilkington, best known for his portrayal of Eamon Maher in the RTÉ Television drama 'The Riordans'.
The ‘Heart of Galway Girl’ competition is held as part of a campaign launched some years ago. It is designed to focus attention on the city centre and to help revitalise the whole heart of Galway.
