The voice of the GAA, Michael O'Hehir was at Cusack Park in Mullingar for the launch of a £1.2 million development.
Michael O'Hehir tells Ciaran Mullooly that in 1938 he auditioned to be a commentator at Cusack Park and so began a long career in broadcasting.
They had a box built over that side of the field. And I went into that and described as I saw it. Well I thought when I was finished that I had made a terrible fool of myself. Well strange as it seems many people seemed to think it was all right. That was the first time.
Seamus Whelan and Paddy Collins of Westmeath GAA describe the plans for the work to be undertaken at the grounds. GAA chairman Jack Boothman was also present at the launch.
An RTÉ News report broadcast 23 June 1995. The reporter was Ciaran Mullooly.
