End of an era in Dungarvan as Waterford Crystal consolidates resources.

In 2005 Waterford Crystal announced that it was to close its Dungarvan plant, with the loss of 390 jobs. A further 95 people were to be made redundant at the company's Waterford city plant, as part of a restructuring plan that would see a total of 1,800 jobs lost across the Waterford Wedgwood group.

Workers give their reaction to RTÉ News in this report. Staff with 35 to 40 years service were being let go, and many would find it hard to get another job. CEO John Foley explains that the company does not have the volume to justify two plants, and is closing the Dungarvan plant to concentrate on the one in Waterford City.
