A new hostel opens in Mountjoy Prison for pre-release prisoners, who are permitted to leave the prison each day to go to work and return each evening.

Minister for Justice, Charles Haughey, is at Mountjoy to officially open the new facility. The hostel is blessed by Dr. J. Curtin.

The hostel contains a recreation hall, a dining hall, a kitchen, a reading room and private meeting room.

The facility at Mountjoy Prison is part of a rehabilitation initiative involving graded measures of freedom, and was built by prison officers and prisoners from the Corrective Training Unit.
