The 'Marita Ann' fishing trawler carrying arms for the IRA seized off the coast of Kerry.

Irish security forces intercepted a fishing vessel carrying explosives and arms bound for the IRA. A crew of five was arrested and seven tons of military equipment believed to come from the USA confiscated.

The Marita Ann was escorted to shore by 'the naval vessels 'Le Mar' and 'Aisling'.

An Taoiseach, Dr. Garret FitzGerald spoke to RTÉ News about the capture.
