Paul McGinley reflects on a sporting year that saw Europe win the Ryder Cup in Ireland.

Paul McGinley was one of three Irish players who were part of the European team that faced the USA at the K Club. For a third consecutive time Europe won the Ryder Cup. The result saw triumph for the golfers from Europe by 18.5 points to 9.5 points.

Speaking to Marty Morrissey at Wentworth Golf Club Paul McGinley describes the special feeling of playing and winning the Ryder Cup in front of his home crowd.

Paul McGinley believes his background in playing Gaelic football and soccer helped when it came to taking part in the Ryder Cup a team event in golf a sport that is usually for individuals. For the week players who normally compete against each other are on the same side.

There no animosity between any two players not that I know of anyway. I think that all adds to it.

As a player Paul McGinley has been on the winning European side three times in 2006, 2004 and he holed the winning putt at the 2002 Ryder Cup
