Dublin Zoo welcomes the arrival of a new Asian elephant. The calf was born to mother Yasmin on 17 July weighing in at 80kg and at a height of 1.2 metres. The wait is finally over after a 22 month gestation period.

The new calf has no name yet and Dublin Zoo are looking for suggestions.

We take a look back 50 years when the first of two baby elephants arrived at Dublin Zoo from India.

The elephant named Jill standing 47 inches high arrived at Dublin airport for Dublin Zoo from India. A second baby bull from India arrived on 3 June 1964.
