Man dies following two-car collision in Donegal

A man in his 50s has died following a two-vehicle collision at Dooballagh, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, last night.

The 55-year-old driver of a Toyota Hilux was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital with serious injuries after the collision with a black Mazda at around 7.45pm yesterday.

However, he died in hospital today.

A 33-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Mazda, suffered serious injuries in the crash and is being treated at Letterkenny General Hospital.

The driver of the Mazda, a 22-year-old man, ran from the scene and was subsequently arrested. 

He is currently being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station and is due to appear before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court at 4.30pm tomorrow charged in relation to the incident.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or any drivers/taxi drivers who may have witnessed the accident or either of the cars prior to the collision.
