A convicted murderer who failed to return to Magilligan Prison near Limavady in Co Derry earlier this week is back in police custody in Northern Ireland.

Yesterday, Stephen Henry was released by a court in Dublin after an arrest for a public order offence.

The court was told that a European Arrest Warrant had not yet been issued and that it could take a week.

Henry, 41, used a Samourai sword in the murder of father-of-two John Cooke in Lisburn 13 years ago.

He went missing after a day release on Monday and following a manhunt by police he was arrested in Waringstown in Co Armagh at around 11.25pm last night.
