The 70th anniversary of VE Day remembering the end of the World War II in Europe has been marked.
The event commemorated the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, when word spread across Europe and the United States that Germany had surrendered to the Allies.
Celebrations took place across Europe as news of the end of the war filtered through.
UK party leaders put aside their election differences to join in marking 70 years since Winston Churchill announced the end of the war.


Prime Minister David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Nicola Sturgeon laid wreaths at the Cenotaph in London's Whitehall to mark the anniversary.

Ceremonies were also held in Paris,Berlin and Moscow.

US Secretary of State John Kerry joined the commemoration in Paris, laying a wreath at the Arc de Triomphe.
But most European leaders attended events in their own country.
