The Department of the Environment says 6,000 social housing units were made available across the country this year.
This figure represents just 6.5% of the 90,000 people on the social housing waiting list.
Focus Ireland disputes the figures and says that the amount of new social housing units actually built this year is more likely to be in the region of 850.
